Camel Crickets
Camel crickets are not your typical field or house cricket. They are not noisy and do not fly. Their bodies are 1/2 to 1 ¼’’ with a humped back very similar to a camel- hence the name. They are light to dark brown, smeared or spotted with lighter or darker areas. Camel crickets’ long legs allow them to jump high, almost appearing to fly. Their longest legs have knee joints that exceed the height of their body. Their long legs make them look like they could be a spider with eight legs, however, they only have six legs with a pair of long antennas. They are attracted to high grass and/or dark, moist, humid areas such as basements or cellars. Camel crickets are omnivores feeding off almost any plant or animal material. They will hide during the day and come out at night to feed. They could potentially damage materials inside your home or business if not properly taken care of.
