Springtails
Springtails are very small insects (1/32-1/8’’) with elongated bodies, six short legs, and two long antennas. They are sometimes barely seen because they are so tiny. They have very poor eyesight and use their long antennas to communicate. These crawling insects are usually white or gray but can be brown, black, or iridescent. Springtails appear to be flying when they jump, however, they are wingless. Their spring-like tail known as a furcula helps them jump away from danger. Springtails are often found inside homes where a lot of humidity is present (wherever there is moisture- chemicals will not work). These moisture-loving insects do not bite or sting but are more of a nuisance than anything else. Springtails are mold feeders that have proteins inside them allowing them to survive even the harshest temperatures and elements. However, springtails cannot live without the moisture from mold-so eliminating it will reduce and/or eliminate them.
Critter Ridders does not offer a treatment for springtails.
